The
Atlantic City Special Improvement
District is a non-profit corporation
formed by Atlantic City
business people in early 1992
to improve the business environment
in the city.
The
city of Atlantic City established
the Special Improvement District
on February 5, 1992 and initially
set a very small assessment
to fund the small start-up budget.
The Special
Improvement District includes
businesses within an area bounded
by Boardwalk (from Albany Avenue
to Connecticut Avenue), Pacific
Avenue (from Albany Avenue to
Connecticut Avenue), Atlantic
Avenue (from Albany Avenue to
Maine Avenue), Arctic Avenue
(from Ohio Avenue to Tennessee
Avenue), and Ventnor Avenue
(from Kingston Avenue to Albany
Avenue).
The
boundaries of the district were
set by City Council Ordinances.
The Special Improvement District
is independent of city government,
but work cooperatively with
city agencies.
The
Special Improvement District
is governed by a Board of Trustees
that consists of twenty (20)
members. The Board membership
includes casino executives,
neighborhood business people
and government officials.
The Special
Improvement District's purpose
is not to replace city services.
The Special Improvement District
compliments the efforts of the
city's public safety and public
works employees.
On September
20, 1999, the Special Improvement
District relocated from its
Pacific Avenue location, which
it had occupied since 1993,
to its quiet surroundings of
Gordon's Alley.
